Skin Care Regimen

Let me start this post by saying I am a total FREAK about my skin. I’m the girl with the big floppy hat, SPF 500+ sitting underneath the umbrella at the beach or pool. I never leave my house without sunscreen on or in my bag. Clearly this is true, have you seen my legs? However, I am also going to be the 60 year old with the amazing face and minimally wrinkled skin.
Anyhoo --  a few weeks ago, my friend Douglas approached me about using Rodan + Fields skin care products. To be honest, I had never heard of them. I am generally a creature of habit and skepticism – especially in this case because I’ve been perfectly happy with my skin care regimen thus far that includes Cetaphil, anti-aging serums and fancy moisturizers.
Then -- the samples. Dang it, Douglas!
Several of these samples and a few weeks later, I’m now hooked.  I filled out a little skin care survey and determined I wanted the Anti-Age Regimen which includes a daily cleansing mask, toner, day and night creams.  I’ve been using this regimen for a little over a week now and I can feel a noticeable difference in the texture and tone of my skin. I also have been using this night renewing serum that feels like putting silk on my face every night. LOVE it.  So, I think I’m going to keep using it for the next few months and see what I think. I also want to try the eye cream. I’ll keep you all posted on my thoughts!

*Disclosure: This post is in conjunction with a partnership deal I have with Douglas Turner, the independent consultant for R+F.  This post does reflect my views of the product.

Lattes Lately

I’ve hit the pause button on blogging and have instead been drinking lots of lattes because my life is consumed with getting our house together and furnished whilst juggling styling gigs. Loving it!
Updates soon!
P.S. Heck yes, that’s an instagram pic of my first latte consumed in the new hizzy! It’s the little things in life, friends.

Instagram Weekend Update

As I mentioned Friday, this weekend we moved into our house! Do you hear that noise?? It’s the robust sound of excitement, glee and bubbly popping!!!!!!!!!!! To say I’m bursting with joy would be an understatement.
We sold our house back in November and didn’t find our new abode and close until February. Since closing, we’ve (and by we’ve, I mean my awesome husband and his dad) done a complete remodeling of the kitchen, like sledge hammering down to the studs remodeling. We’ve also eliminated a few walls to allow for a more open floor plan in between the kitchen and living/dining area. Other sprucing included new hardwood floors, lots of paint and the usual to make a home your own.  I’m so high on adrenaline and happiness I haven’t even had a moment to think about how truly exhausted I am, but I have had time to feel blessed and be incredibly thankful for many things including a wonderful family, supportive friends and a lovely new home. We still have lots of work to do, but we’re here! Deets soon!
P.S. I did manage to squeeze some time in to attend a Little Rock Fashion Week event Saturday and I’ll have a post on that soon.
Until then – HAPPY TUESDAAAAY!!!

Cheers to this weekend! It's gonna be action packed. I have a fabulous friend in town, going to Little Rock Fashion Week events AND I just buried the lead: We're moving into our house!!! Soooo, I may need to hit the pause button on blogging for a couple of days, but I'll be back soon and will have lots to share on our move!
Until then, have a great weekend!

LRFW Kick Off!

Last night, I attended the kick off for Little Rock Fashion Week 2012: The Music Remix Experience!
Talent from Little Rock based designers and musicians were on full display as was merch from local boutiques. I attended the show with two of my fabulous friends at the Cornerstone Pub in North Little Rock!

Here are a few highlights:
My fabulous and fashionable friends, Elizabeth and Amy Jo from AJWearsClothes!
These are a few looks from Kandace Sherman's (pictured top left - isn't she so cute!) new Conway boutique, Round 1 Fashions. Sherman showed us several unique pieces from her store including the blue jumpsuit from House of Dereon, which was one of my faves. She describes her style and the merchandise in her store as urban chic with a twist of funkiness. I like it!
Say hello to the man who made this all happen: Mr. Brandon D. Campbell., the founder of Little Rock Fashion Week. This event is now in its fourth year and I have a feeling it's just going to keep getting bigger and better. Shout out to Mr. Campbell!
A few local musicians including T-Jones kept the party going throughout the night with legit beats. Also, Little Rock based designer Osio Mita gave us a preview of her line that will be shown in its entirety later this week. Unfortunately, because I'm still a camera novice/ree ree, I didn't get blog worthy shots from the snapshot of her collection. I'll have to catch up with her again!

Speaking of, there will be LRFW events happening all week. Check out the schedule here. I'll be attending what I can and you can follow my shenanigans on twitter @LRBigStyle.

What I Wore: LRFW

Little Rock Fashion Week kicked off in North Little Rock last night! That’s right – we’re representing here in the Natural State so look out New York! In its fourth year, LRFW started the 2012 week long event off with the Music Remix Experience – where fashion meets music! We got to hear performances from local artists, meet designers and check out a few looks from the catwalk.
So, what to wear?? I decided to go with this flirty white skirt, black lace top and my leopard oxfords. I wanted to be comfortable yet cool, literally (it's hot y'all) - and because I knew I would be on my feet chatting it up – it’s what I do - flats were a must for me. I also added a little playful pop of color with this green belt and turtle buckle.
{Skirt: Urban Outfitters, Top: Banana Republic Mad Men Collection, Bag: Vintage Socialite, Shoes: F21, Sunnies Ann Taylor}
I’ll post a few snapshops from the event later this afternoon!
You can follow me on twitter @LRBigStyle for the latest updates!
Happy Tuesday!!

Peplum Party!

So, I finally got my new peplum top back from the magic cleaning place and decided to debut it and its extra cheerful glory at a party over the weekend. Mission accomplished. It was a farewell party, sooo I think the bright orange and polka dots did just that as we wished two of our favorite friends, Ginger and Jeremy the very best as they embark on a new adventure in a neighboring state together. We did so at another friend's house with all of their favorite treats from around Little Rock including Whole Hog ribs and sweet treats from Silvek’s Bakery.
Delicious food. Check.
Good times had. Check.
Looking cute. Check.
{Top: ASOS, Jeans: Gap, Shoes and Bag: Zara, Jewelry: JewelMint, F21, Kristin Todd}
Oooo - serious model face here. Check. I keep looking to the right. There must be something very interesting over there.

Tulle Time

What you're seeing here friends are two of my favorite things: my tulle skirt from Anthropologie and dance moves. Okay, so I omitted the pics of me doing the robot but shared the twirling because when you wear this skirt, you must twirl.  I picked it up in Las Vegas years ago and it remains one of my absolute favorite pieces. I wear it to weddings, the grocery store and last night - the movies.
My Amys and I went to see the new Katy Perry movie and we LOVED it! We laughed, cried, sang - loudly and fist pumped!We were basically alone in the theatre, in case you were wondering. I've always been a fan but now I love her even more.
Yep - blue steel. You're welcome.
{Skirt: Anthro - old, Shoes: F21, Bag and Shirt: Target, Necklace: Kristin Todd, Sunnies: Ann Taylor}
..."boom, boom, boom..."
Happy Thursday!!

It's that time! Happy Gratuitous Picture of Your Dog Wednesday (GPOYDW)! And GPOYDW is just that - sharing a pic of your pups. Cullen is giving a little "blue steel pose" here. Don't you agree? I got the idea from this blog - and am paying it forward! If you have a dog - get in on this!

Unflat Flats

I’m currently obsessed with these Sam Edelman Aster Loafers. Aren’t  these amazeballs?? The snakeskin and the metallic cap toe are so fantastic! I also am a huge lover of flats anyway and there ain’t nothin’ flat about these flats. Okaaay!  Spectacular! My birthday is coming up, soooo maybe these need to be mine.
Happy Wednesday!!

What I Wore: Birthday Bash!

Excuse my glow - I was sweating like a harlot in church during this party pic "blog shoot." In fact - I'll probably be looking like this until October. You've been warned.
So, because the shindig was indoors -  this is what I wore to the birthday bash that I just posted about for one of my bestest friends - Jordan.
Let's hear it for a pop of neon and fun zebra prints!

Birthday Bash

As I've mentioned in previous posts - we like to celebrate birthdays as long as possible. I mean, why wouldn't you? It's the best! We're also a bunch that loves to snap a few photos to mark the occasion in case you haven't noticed. What? We're making memories, people!
So here we go!
Jordan Foster's 30th Birthday Bash at Reno's!
{The Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta a Feeling will provide the soundtrack for viewing}
Whew! How about this collage of party pics?!
It was a good night, indeed! Happy Birthday to one of my bestest friends!

Trend Alert: Peplum

What I’m having here friends is a peplum moment. This trend has made it from the catwalk to the red carpet and in the past few months - to us: the real peoples. Okay, so I admit I was hesitant to embrace the peplum trend at first because I thought why do I want to add another tier to my body? I already have hips and I’m not 5’11”. But what I found is this trend is not just for stick figures. Check out Beyonce!  Peplums celebrate the waist-to-hip curve with a little flair, literally. When done right, it can be flattering, fun and girly, but you can also find edgy and sleek styles too.
Now, not all peplums are created equal in fabulousness. I pulled a few looks from some of my favorite bloggers who are doing it right!
From top left: Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere is representing the edgy vibe with this leather peplum top; Blair from Atlantic-Pacific is extra sweet and girly in her ensemble.
Bottom right: Kimberly from Eat.Sleep.Wear rocks her peplum with super fun floral pants and Yara from This Chick’s Got Style is wearing a polkadot peplum top with skinny jeans.

A couple of quick tips if you’re going to join us in embracing the peplum:
  • Make sure it hits you at the thinnest part of your waist. The fit is key!
  • For normal people like us, if you wear it with a skirt make sure it hits either right above the knee or below where your legs narrow.  Y’all know I love the pencil skirt.
  • My favorite way to wear peplum is with sleek trousers or skinny jeans.
Here are a few tops I’m currently loving: (from left to right)
*My new peplum is at the magic cleaning place. Pics soon.
Happy Friday!!!

Last week, my friends and I attended a little Shop-n-Sip party hosted by Forsythes-Kristin Todd.  Lots of shopping ensued once the sipping began. (Genious plan!) We had SUCH a blast! Our private party had a chance to browse the latest merch and discuss the latest trends.

Linen and Armadillo Cake

This weekend it was about linen and armadillo cake as we celebrated the 30th birthday for our friend Brian with a little house party! (I know - a lot of 30th bday parties lately - love it!) In light of scorching temps and a casual gathering, I opted for this linen bandeau dress. I kept it simple by adding a little arm candy and a statement earring rather than a necklace since it was extra sticky outside this weekend.
{Dress: DeJaVu (old), Tote: F21, Bracelets: Dillard's, F21, Kristin Todd, Earrings: Kristin Todd}
I picked up these earrings from Kristin Todd last week. Already a fave.
There's the bday boy! Happy Birthday, B!!!! *Pic courtesy of AJ Wears Clothes
How legit is this cake?! Amy G. made this bleeding armadillo cake with extra love for Brian's bday. He is a HUGE Steel Magnolias fan, as is she. It was delish and a huge party fave!
